What We Do

About Us

Dorcas-Blessing Glaucoma Awareness Foundation (DBGAF) is a non-profit organization committed to combating glaucoma-related blindness through public awareness campaigns, community outreach, education, advocacy, and partnerships with healthcare professionals and institutions.

We believe that no one should lose their sight because of a lack of information or access to timely eye care. Through strategic programs and community engagement, we work to empower individuals and communities with the knowledge needed to protect their vision.

Our Mission

To reduce preventable blindness caused by glaucoma through awareness, education, advocacy, early detection initiatives, and community-based interventions.

Common Symptoms

While glaucoma may not show symptoms early, advanced stages can include:

  • Gradual loss of peripheral vision
  • Blurred vision
  • Eye pain
  • Headaches
  • Halos around lights
  • Difficulty seeing in low light

Why Early Detection Matters

Early diagnosis and treatment can help slow or prevent vision loss. Regular eye examinations are essential, especially for individuals who:

  • Are over 40 years old
  • Have a family history of glaucoma
  • Have diabetes or high blood pressure
  • Are of African descent
  • Have experienced eye injuries

Prevention and Eye Care Tips

  • Schedule regular comprehensive eye examinations.
  • Follow prescribed treatments if diagnosed.
  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • Control blood pressure and diabetes.
  • Seek professional eye care when experiencing vision changes.

ABOUT GLAUCOMA

Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve, often due to increased pressure inside the eye. It is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness worldwide.

Known as the “silent thief of sight,” glaucoma often develops without noticeable symptoms in its early stages. Many people are unaware they have the condition until significant vision loss has already occurred.
