Dorcas Blessing Glaucoma Awareness Foundation (DBGAF) is dedicated to raising awareness about glaucoma, promoting early detection, supporting eye health education, and reducing preventable blindness across Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Dorcas-Blessing Glaucoma Awareness Foundation (DBGAF) is a non-profit organization committed to combating glaucoma-related blindness through public awareness campaigns, community outreach, education, advocacy, and partnerships with healthcare professionals and institutions.
We believe that no one should lose their sight because of a lack of information or access to timely eye care. Through strategic programs and community engagement, we work to empower individuals and communities with the knowledge needed to protect their vision.
Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve, often due to increased pressure inside the eye. It is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness worldwide.
Known as the “silent thief of sight,” glaucoma often develops without noticeable symptoms in its early stages. Many people are unaware they have the condition until significant vision loss has already occurred.
To reduce preventable blindness caused by glaucoma through awareness, education, advocacy, early detection initiatives, and community-based interventions.
A future where every individual has access to glaucoma awareness, early diagnosis, and quality eye care services, leading to healthier communities and reduced vision loss across Africa.
We care deeply about improving the lives of individuals affected by glaucoma.
We operate with transparency, accountability, and professionalism.
We strive for the highest standards in all our programs and services.
We believe in partnerships that strengthen eye health outcomes.

There is a stealth killer moving silently through our communities. It takes no hostages, announces no arrival, and by the time most people know it is there, it has already done its damage. It is called glaucoma — and it is stealing the sight of people across Sub-Saharan Africa one day at a time, largely because they simply do not know.
I know this not from a textbook. I know it from my own eyes.
In 2022, I was diagnosed with glaucoma, having pressures so dangerously elevated that my ophthalmologist described the urgency as immediate. What followed was a journey through bilateral surgery, multiple interventions, and the kind of reckoning that only a diagnosis like this can bring — the realisation that I had been losing ground silently, for years, without knowing.
But I am one of the blessed ones. I found out. I had access to care. I had people around me who helped me fight.
Millions of others are not so fortunate. They are still on the journey — losing a little more sight each passing day — not because treatment is unavailable, but because no one told them they were at risk. No one told them that glaucoma is largely preventable if caught early. No one told them that a diagnosis is not a sentence of blindness.
That realisation is what birthed the Dorcas-Blessing Glaucoma Awareness Foundation.
Isaac Newton once said that if he saw further than others, it was because he stood on the shoulders of giants. This Foundation exists to be that shoulder — for every man, woman, and child who is walking through life unaware that their sight is quietly being taken from them. We want them to stand on what we have learned, on what we have suffered, on what we have overcome — and to see.
Our mission is simple but urgent. We will take this message to communities, to schools, to markets, to churches, to anyone who will listen. We will provide free screening to as many people as possible. We will support those who have been diagnosed and need help finding their way to care. And we will advocate — loudly and persistently — until glaucoma is no longer treated as an afterthought in our national health conversation.
Life, as they say, is not a sprint. The journey is the destination. But some journeys end too soon — in darkness — not because they had to, but because no one shone a light in time.
We are here to shine that light.
